It is a recognition of changes that are providing opportunities to women candidates gaining permanent commission into the Defence Forces. NDA is one of the most sought-after entrance examinations in the country for joining the defense sector. The exam is conducted twice every year by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for admission to Army, Navy, and Air Force wings of NDA and Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC). To apply for NDA, a Girl candidate must be:
1) A citizen of India or
2) A subject of Nepal or
3) A subject of Bhutan
4) A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before January 1, 1962, intending to permanently settle in India or
5) A person originally Indian who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, and Ethiopia or Vietnam intending to permanently settle in India
Provided that a candidate belonging to categories 2, 3, 4 and 5 shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Indian government.
A certificate of eligibility will not, however, be necessary in the case of candidates who are Gorkha subjects of Nepal.
For NDA 2, Girls candidates must have been born not earlier than January 2, 2002, and not later than January 1, 2005. The commission will accept the date of birth that is entered in Class 10 or 12 certificates of the candidate. Candidates need to submit these certificates after the declaration of the result of the written exam.
Only unmarried male/female candidates are eligible to apply for NDA Exam. Other than the above-mentioned eligibility criteria, there are certain physical fitness standards that must be fulfilled by the candidates to be finally selected. Candidates must note that NDA eligibility for males and females is the same, except for the physical criteria.
