On December 7, India celebrates Flag Day, also known as Armed Forces Flag Day. The day is commemorated in order to honor the soldiers serving in India’s armed forces as well as the veterans. The day has been observed annually since 7 December 1949. During its independence from British rule, India adopted British flags, ensigns, and ranks. This year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi disclosed the new armed service ensign that eschews the Union flag and alternative colonial heritage of the past.
Armed Forces Flag Day 2022: History
On December 7, people across the nation observe the day in an effort to raise money for the Armed Forces Staff's advancement. This day is now observed annually as a mark of respect for Indian soldiers, sailors, and airmen.
On August 28, 1949, the Defence Minister's Committee established the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund. To establish the Armed Forces Flag Day fund, the Defense Ministry of India amalgamated all relevant welfare funds, including funds for war victims, the Kendriya Sainik Board Fund, and the ex-welfare servicemen's fund.
Traditionally, December 7 has been observed in India as Armed Forces Flag Day since 1949. It is known as the Flag Day of India or the Armed Forces Flag Day to honor India's armed forces members and veterans.
Why is Armed Forces Flag Day celebrated on 7 December?
In 1949, the Defence Minister's Committee established the first Flag Day Fund. Armed Forces Flag Day funds were merged into one fund in 1993 by the Indian Ministry of Defence. In honor of those who died defending the integrity and safety of the nation, the nation observed the first Armed Forces Flag Day on December 7, 1949. Every year since then, India has celebrated Armed Forces Flag Day.

Nationally, the fund collection is managed by the local divisions of the Kendriya Sainik Board (KSB), an element of the Ministry of Defence. Through volunteer organizations, the collection is organized in both official and informal ways.
How does Armed Forces Flag Day commemorate the armed forces?
The Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and Indian Navy all organize various shows, carnivals, dramas, and other entertainment programs on Flag Day to highlight to the public the efforts of their personnel to ensure national security. As part of the donation process, small flags and car flags in red, deep blue, and light blue representing each service are distributed throughout the country.

Indian servicemen distribute the Indian tricolor red, dark blue and light blue representing the three divisions of the Indian Army across the country. Brave and courageous fighters showed the familiar how they overcame obstacles in battle and gave their lives to defend and protect their country.
Armed Forces Flag Day 2022: Celebration
On this day, the Indian Armed Forces comprising the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and Indian Navy organize a variety of activities to highlight the achievements of our army and personnel. Members of the public get involved in the day's festivities by signing up to volunteer and helping collect cash, stickers, and other merchandise. A number of patriotic events are planned to encourage public participation and recognize the contributions of the country's armed forces.
